Spring 2021 Office News

To Our Valued Patients,

We hope this email finds you well and we wanted to update you on some exciting news at our office. With the number of new COVID cases in our area declining and more individuals being vaccinated we are excited to see more patients physically in the office. We have MISSED seeing you!!! Each doctor will still have a telemedicine option. We are also utilizing our socially distanced waiting room more with allergy shot patients.

We have also installed a negative pressure room so we are able to do Pulmonary Function Tests again. It must be ordered by a physician or NP/PA. If you are not fully COVID-19 vaccinated, a rapid COVID antigen test must be performed before you can blow into the machine. The results take 15 minutes so if you want to come earlier for your appointment, you can.

Starting on TUESDAY, March 23rd, we will be able to schedule allergy injections up to 1 week in advance and you will get a text message reminder of your appointment. You will still need to call at least 1 hour before you would like to come in for a SAME DAY injection. We will do our best to accommodate patients with empty exam rooms first for your wait time, but please understand there is no guarantee as we slowly make the transition to seeing more in-office appointments.

Things To Know This Spring Season

With spring in the air, tree and later grass pollens will be flying everywhere. Aside from taking your allergy medications, reducing your exposure to these pollens is also very effective at reducing your symptoms. Keeping your house and car windows closed, and limiting your outdoor activities on high pollen count days will help to reduce your exposure. If you are participating in outdoor activities, try to change your clothes and/or shower immediately after the activity to wash the pollens away. Saline nasal sprays can also be helpful to wash away the pollens that you breathed in through your nose.

What If I Think I Am Sick

Call your primary care provider or an urgent care center if you develop symptoms and you have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19, or you have recently traveled from an area with ongoing spread of COVID-19.

Please know that not all patients with COVID-19 require hospital admission. Those without respiratory complications can self-isolate, but should seek medical attention if their illness worsens. Patients who are at risk for complications should be admitted to the hospital under appropriate isolation precautions.

According to the World Health Organization , the highest risk groups include:

  • People caring for someone who is ill with coronavirus
  • People over age 60
  • People with chronic medical conditions such as: High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • COPD
  • Asthma

If you have an appointment but have or have had a fever please call to reschedule or, if you are due an allergy shot, please postpone your shot. Due to the greater risk to our respiratory disease patients, we ask that patients are fever free for two weeks before entering our waiting rooms.

How Should I Prepare For Allergy Shots

You may want to avoid exercise or doing anything strenuous for 2 hours before and after your appointment. Thatâs because exercise boosts blood flow to the tissues and may cause the allergens to spread throughout your body faster. Itâs not likely to cause a serious problem, but itâs best to be safe.

Tell your doctor about any other medicines or herbs and supplements you take. Some medications interfere with the treatment or raise the risk of side effects. You may need to stop allergy shots if you take these medications.

If youâre pregnant or planning to get pregnant, ask your doctor whether you should continue to get allergy shots.
