What Is Local Allergic Rhinitis

Local Allergic Rhinitis is a true allergy confined to the nasal cavity. It will respond to all the typical allergy therapies but will show negative skin testing and blood tests. Our comprehensive allergy treatments can let you get control of these bothersome symptoms even if you were told: you dont have allergies.

LAR can be treated very effectively with allergy drop therapy. In these patients, we formulate the allergy drops based upon the patients history. The types of exposures specific to the time of year have a direct impact on the symptoms experienced by the patient. Common and typical exposures include the following:

  • Local weeds

Allergy drops treatment can be very effective in resolving the patients symptoms.

He also offers comprehensive allergy care with needle-free allergy testing and the convenience of natural allergy drop therapy.

Sinus & Snoring Specialists main mission is to provide everything needed for a full evaluation and treatment in one location. With this philosophy, we are able to provide Comprehensive Exams, High Definition Nasal Endoscopy, miniCT scans, Home Sleep Tests, and Hearing Evaluations in our clinic, all in one visit. In addition, the services that the patient may require are all performed right in our advanced office procedure suite with the safety and comfort of IV sedation.

What Structural Issues Does Dr Slaughter Treat

How to Best Alleviate Sinus Pressure

Chronic Sinusitis, Septal Deviation, Turbinate Hypertrophy, Nasal Polyps, and Fungal Sinusitis are structural issues in the nose that can mimic allergy complaints. Patients with these conditions may suffer for years on allergy therapy without relief because the diagnosis was missed at the initial visit.

Dr. Slaughter personally evaluates all patients at the initial visit to make sure the treatment plan is correct. He can use non-surgical and minimally invasive techniques to correct these issues as an office procedure under IV sedation. He has pioneered treatments such as submucosal turbinate reduction, endoscopic polypectomy and more to relieve these structural issues.

In addition to relieving these structural issues, Dr. Slaughter has developed the use of custom topical antibiotic treatments. Patients suffering from sinus infections typically are given an antibiotic without any culture being performed. Unfortunately, the bacteria may not be sensitive to that antibiotic and the infection will persist. Dr. Slaughter can perform video nasal endoscopy at the time of your visit or procedure to obtain a culture and guide your therapy. Dr. Slaughter also can perform a custom antibiotic sinus wash, called cyclone lavage, to evacuate the sinus infection and irrigate the sinus cavity with antibiotics. This is typically done under IV sedation along with balloon sinuplasty.

Four Types Of Sinus Cavities

The term sinuses actually refers to the sinus cavities. These facial sections are made up of four parts, all of which are called sinus cavities. The largest of the four cavities is the maxillary region or maxillary sinus, and it is located in your cheekbones. The maxillary is the largest parts of your sinus, spanning approximately one inch in length . It has two parts, too, one on each side of your nose.

The second part of your sinuses is called the frontal sinus. This region is located on your forehead just above the inner corner extending to about the middle your eyebrows. The frontal sinuses also consist of two parts – one above each inner eyebrow. The third part of your sinuses is called the ethmoid sinus, which is located between your eyes in the area most people call the nasal bridge.

The fourth and last part of the sinuses is called the sphenoid sinus, and it is located near the bones of your skull behind your nasal cavity. The sphenoid sinuses are close to the ethmoid sinuses, and if you were to look at a picture of your sphenoid sinuses, they would look like part of the ethmoid sinuses. Also, the sphenoid sinuses are the smallest part of your sinuses.

A Stuffy Nose Is Nothing To Sneeze At

Capital ENT & Sinus Center

When you cant breathe, you cant sleep. With a sinus headache or migraine, you cant think. You cant talk or sleep if you are constantly coughing and choking on post-nasal drip. Congestion can clog up your ears, making it hard to hear. If you cant smell, you cant taste. This is no way to live.

If you are all too familiar with nasal congestion, for whatever reason, it is important to see your Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor for proper diagnosis of the causes behind your nasal congestion so that you can get the right sinus treatment. It is true that home remedies can give you temporary relief and even ameliorate minor nasal irritations. But if you have chronic congestion, allergies, sinus infections or nose polyps, Austin Ear Clinic will be able to diagnose the core reason behind your suffering and recommend the right treatment for you.

Additionally, if you have small children with any of these problems, it is even more important to have them seen by an ENT because many over-the-counter or home child and infant decongestant remedies have safety issues.

Children with frequent nasal congestion, colds and allergies may also struggle with ear infections that can adversely affect their hearing and speech development. An ENT experienced in treating pediatric cases can help you find the best nasal decongestant kids, toddlers, and infants can use safely.

Why Not To Stick Cotton Swabs In Your Ear

Submitted by rodrie14 on Mon, 2013-04-01 09:05A recent episode of Girls featured an excruciating scene in which Hannah, grappling with OCD, inserted a cotton swab deep into her ear canal and heard air hiss out the hole shed apparently poked in her ear drum. Later, show creator Lena Dunham, who plays Hannah, tweeted: If all Ive done on this earth is scare you out of using Q-Tips, I will die a happy and purposeful woman. Is Dunham right? Capital Otolaryngology Is Now Capital Ent & Sinus Center

Everythings bigger in Texas, right? Unfortunately, that means the allergens, too. And its especially difficult for Central Texans to catch a break. Oak pollen season is here, coming right on the heels of cedar pollen season, which spanned the winter months.

A flurry of oak pollen brings with it sneezing, itching, nasal congestion and a nagging post-nasal drip. In Austin and Lakeway, theres help at Capital Otolaryngology, recently renamed Capital ENT & Sinus Center. Dr. Zachary Wassmuth and his expert team provide the same help they have for the past two decades, right in your neighborhood.

Sure, Capital ENT is a lot easier to say than otolaryngology . Dont miss this video of your local doctors who even have trouble saying it. Even though they might not sound like Shakespeare, the team understands that a rose by any other name is just as sweet.

For doctors who focus on the things that help us communicate hearing sounds, vocal functions and even the nasal passages that must work in order to get everything enunciated correctly the name change just made sense. Now, not only is Capital ENT much easier to pronounce, but it says exactly what they do. After all, they specialize in ear, nose and throat issues.

No friend: Fighting allergen foes

Dharamsi explains that allergies occur when the body misidentifies something that is not harmful as potentially harmful. Allergies are common, too, impacting one in four adults and kids, affecting quality of life.
